Community Discussion Session

We involve the community in a two day discussion about what it mean for their children to be safe, healthy, at home, in school, and behaving well. This discussion is structured around three goals.
  1. Outcomes: Discuss what it means in that community to have a child safe, healthy, at home, in school, and behaving well.

  2. Practices: Discuss different practices that might affect children, like sanitation, nutrition, health care, education, etc.

  3. Open Space Forum: The community forms small groups that each focus on a practice, like a sanitation group, an education group, etc. The individuals that compose these groups usually have some type of specially interest in the issue, and they create a plan for the community to work together for change.
We invite everyone in the village to attend our community discussion session, using flyers, posters, and word of mouth. We bring everyone together on a specified date and time and for two days we work to create a forum for change. Local issues need local solutions.

Building Partnerships

Village Care partners United States and African churches with rural villages. The aim of this long term partnership is to facilitate a relationship that encourages improvement in sanitation, nutrition, education, health care, and economic security. Once a church commits to a village, they are able to work alongside local community leaders and volunteers to build lasting relationships that strengthen the foundation for change.

Orphan Support

The AIDS pandemic has placed a strain on caring for orphans. While normally a grandmother or close relative would take on the child, families are simply overwhelmed by the number of orphans. Our volunteers work with community and family members to provide them with the basic necessities. Funding is used for basic medical needs, nutritional supplements and shoes and clothing.

Youth Empowerment Scholarships

Kenya has been praised for its universal free primary education. However, children without uniforms or books cannot attend school, and secondary schools charge tuition. It costs about 100$ per year for primary, and about 500$ for secondary school. Village Care is dedicated to helping the community send children to school. Education is the key to rising up out of poverty.

Fight Poverty in Africa

• More than half of those orphaned by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa are between the ages of 10 and 15.

• The percentage of the region's orphans whose parents died from HIV/AIDS has grown from 3.5 percent in 1990, to 32 percent in 2001.

• Nintey percent of malaria deaths occur in Africa, where malaria accounts for one in five of all childhood deaths.

• There is hope for Africa.
